  • Fighting delinquency, ensuring public order

In the Maramures county, family violence is most common, usually due to alcohol abuse; there have been more cases this year than before. Nevertheless, the figure of violent crimes involving underaged significantly decreased. Schools organise regular meetings on crime prevention, attended by pupils, teachers, police.
In the year 2000, 29 infractions within family occurred (9 murders, 6 attempted murders, 1 deathly attack and 13 severe body injuries). This type of crime increased in the first 6 months of 2001.

  • Civil protection, fire extinction

The „Gheorghe Pop de Basesti" Fire brigade is in charge with fire prevention and extinction in the Maramures county. 124 interventions took place in the first 11 months of 2001, namely 107 fires, 1 person pull-out from a wretched vehicle, 12 instances of person assistance and 4 of civil protection.
There is a special civil protection service at the Baia Mare city hall, which functions continuously in special circumstances (major risks, calamities, etc).
